News and Website Updates

The first half of 2018 has gone at a breakneck pace, and it’s brought a few bits of exciting news. With all those updates, it seemed like a good time to overhaul the website.

Since I last wrote here, I’ve published a couple of new pieces of literary criticism, along with a new short story. Jenny Molberg and Christian Bancroft’s striking volume on the under-appreciated American modernist poet Adelaide Crapsey includes my essay on Crapsey’s formal innovations and struggle with illness. (You should definitely check out this book, as well as all the titles in Pleiades Press‘ Unsung Masters series!) The Massachusetts Review also published my essay on artist-critics in two parts. (Part 1 appeared in issue 58.4, and part 2 appeared in issue 59.1, back in March!) And the fine folks at Fiction Southeast published my short story “Self-Portrait with Windmill,” which you can read online.

Of course, I’m still keeping up my work with the fiction and poetry section of Modern Language Studies. We’ve launched a second episode of The Sidebar, our fiction and poetry podcast. The new episode features a conversation between the poet-translator Richard Jeffrey Newman and myself. And we have a third episode in the works—but you’ll have to wait until August to hear it!
